ARWEL HUGHES & FFLAM
Arwel is a Watch Manager of 14 years service
and is currently based in the Neath and Port Talbot Command area of the
brigade.
An
UKFSSART member since 1995 and a team member of the tragic Turkish earthquake
deployment in 1999.
Fflam ( Welsh for flame ) is a four year old
Border Collie from an excellent working background. Being highly sociable and
with a tremendous and sometimes MAD
play drive, he has developed well into a confident and effective search
dog that simply cant get enough of the game.
Fflam's services were recently called upon to
attend the rescue operation at Boscastle in Cornwall where it was feared that
people may have been trapped in the collapsed structures of the disastrous
flooding that hit the small community.
The last twelve months have been rather
eventful with Arwel having the opportunity to attend the Collapsed Structure
Technicians course in Texas , USA and also the privilege to travel to Thailand
to assist with the training and development of the Thai Search Dog Team that
the UKFSSART Dog Team are supporting through our sponsors.
In addition
to search work and training Fflam is kept busy attending displays, school
visits and fetes etc to show off his abilities, in September of 2004 Fflam
together with his team were guests at the International Sheep Dog Trials which
drew spectators from around the world to the picturesque Towy Valley in West
Wales.
