JO EVANS, JAKE & ZAK

My name is Jo Evans and my dogs are called Jake and Zak.  I have been an operational Firefighter for 11 years and am currently serving with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

I was one of the 24 founder members of the Search and Rescue Team (SRT) which mobilises to all non fire rescue incidents on Merseyside.

Core skills for members of the SRT are Urban Search and Rescue Collapsed Structure Technician, Rope Rescue Operator, Swift Water Rescue One Technician, Category A Medical Emergency Co-responder and Road Traffic Accident Instructor.

I graded with Jake in February of 2005, and have mobilised to a number of incidents within Merseyside since then, including collapsed structures and open area searches.

In addition to attending incidents and delivering training, myself, Jake and Zak are involved in community safety and youth engagement activities.

Jake is 6 years old and joined the family from a working farm in North Wales as a pup of 8 weeks.

Zak is 5 months old and is also from a working background.  Both dogs enjoy playing together and with my daughter Abby, so things are pretty lively at home at the moment.
